Special colour production for standout print work
Cactus Graphics is a modern print business based in Dover, Kent, with printing heritage stretching back nearly 200 years. Founded in July 2021 as the successor to Buckland Media Group, the business is led by Managing Director Katie Weaver and Commercial Director Richard Archer. Their vision from the outset was clear: to build a print operation that competes on capability and creativity, not on price. In a market where commodity print is increasingly available online, Cactus Graphics chose to differentiate through what they could produce that their competitors simply could not.
Cactus Graphics' growth strategy centred on offering premium print products that would set them apart in a crowded market. Standard CMYK production — however high the quality — was available from every competitor. To truly differentiate, they needed special colour capabilities: metallic effects, white on dark stock, clear and neon embellishments, and the kind of tactile, premium finishes that make printed materials stand out. They needed a production printer that could deliver these effects reliably and cost-effectively, enabling them to build a product range that commodity print competitors could not replicate.
Colyer specified the Fujifilm Revoria PC1120 production printer with its full special colour capability — including gold, silver, white, clear, and neon toners. The Revoria PC1120 enables Cactus Graphics to produce effects that go far beyond standard digital print: metallic business cards and invitations, embossed-effect brochures with clear toner, neon-highlighted promotional materials, and white-on-dark designs. The special colour toners are integral to the machine's production workflow, meaning these premium effects can be produced in-line at production speed rather than requiring separate finishing processes.
The Revoria PC1120 gave Cactus Graphics a product range that no local competitor could match. Special colour capabilities attracted new customers specifically seeking premium print effects — from wedding stationers wanting gold and silver finishes to corporate clients needing brand materials with standout shelf impact. The in-line production of special effects eliminated the need for separate finishing processes, keeping production efficient and margins healthy. The investment validated Katie and Richard's strategy: differentiation through capability, backed by a production partnership with Colyer that provided the technology to make it possible.
The Revoria PC1120 has been a game-changer for us. The special colour capabilities have allowed us to offer products no one else can match.
