A Guide to
Preventive Maintenance.

Keeping Your HP Large Format Printer Pristine.

Preventive maintenance is the key to keeping your HP large format printer in optimal condition. Regular cleaning and upkeep not only prolong its lifespan but also ensure consistent print quality. However, it’s important to note that certain maintenance tasks should be performed by Qualified HP engineers to prevent damage to the printer.

Cleaning the Printer

To maintain your HP large format printer, it’s essential to keep your printer, free of accumulated dust, ink, and other contaminants. Cleaning intervals should be determined by the product’s environment and the types of supplies used.

Here’s a general cleaning routine you can follow:

  1. Blow away dust accumulation: Use compressed air, if available, to blow away dust from the printer. Ensure the product is switched off and unplugged before cleaning.
  2. Clean the outer surface: Use a damp sponge or cloth to wipe the outer surface of the printer. If necessary, use a mild soap and water solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  3. Wipe dry: After cleaning, wipe the product dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
  4. Print a nozzle check or test pattern every few days to keep the ink flowing cleanly.
  5. Use print head swabs to clean the maintenance station and cap twice weekly.
  6. Clean the guide ramps and area around the print heads weekly.
  7. Replace the flushing box insert every two weeks.

Drive Roller:

If ink spills on the drive roller, it’s crucial to clean it promptly to prevent disruption of the product’s functionality. Follow these steps:

  • Perform the Turn drive roller utility as described in the printer’s manual.
  • Apply a water-based cleaning solution to a soft, lint-free rag and clean the drive roller and overdrive surface while it’s rotating.
  • Allow the drive roller to dry completely before loading the paper into the product.

Encoder Strip:

The encoder strip should be cleaned when the printer is not printing and the carriage assembly is at the front panel side of the product. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Clean the scanner’s glass plate periodically, especially depending on the frequency of scanner usage.

Cleaning the Scanner’s Glass Plate:

  1.  Turn off the printer and disconnect the power source.
  2. Open the scanner cover by sliding the lever located at the rear left of the scanner.
  3. Clean the pressure rollers and feed rollers as recommended in the printer’s manual.

Caution: Do not lift the scanner while the cover is open to avoid injury.

By following these preventative maintenance procedures and seeking professional assistance, when necessary, you can ensure your HP large format printer operates smoothly and produces high-quality prints consistently.
